The Downfalls of the Humorous

All my life I have been the funny girl. My mom recalls that I began telling jokes and demanding the center of attention at the tender age of 3. All her friends remind me of a McDonald’s joke I came up with when I was around 9, that still cracks them up from time to time. It didn’t stop there and I still long for the laughter of my peers. It brings me pure joy to see others grabbing their sides after I have said or done something utterly ridiculous. I love it, but sometimes I hate it.
Being known as funny is really a curse at times. Just recently a guy friend and I got into it because I said something that he took complete offense to. My innocent defense, “I was just joking.” But sometimes those 4 words do not work and you wind up hurting the people you genuinely care about. Oh damn my funny genes!!
Then there are the times when you are being absolutely serious about something completely important. And guess what funny person… no one takes you seriously. They think you’re a joke and laugh about your serious moments. Then this winds up hurting you. Oh damn my funny genes!!
You could be having one of those days when you hate people and wish they would all die, and everyone is looking to you for some type of entertainment because face it, you’re their personal coon. Then you end up hurting people’s feelings because you are like get the hell out of my face with that foolery. Oh damn my funny genes!!
All in all I guess I must accept my fate and live with the downfalls that accompany being humorous. Oh damn my funny genes!!
